Shallowford Presbyterian Church Goes Solar with New On-Site Renewable Energy System

Shallowford Presbyterian Church has completed the installation of a new on-site solar energy system in partnership with Sunpath Solar, a Georgia-based solar installer. Guided by stewardship and service, Shallowford Presbyterian has gone solar to reduce operating costs and redirect savings toward its ministry and community programs.

The solar system totals 53.4 kW and is projected to generate approximately 67,660 kWh of clean electricity each year, offsetting a significant portion of the organization’s energy use. The system is expected to deliver an estimated average of $9,568 in annual electricity savings, totaling $330,596 over its lifetime, while offsetting approximately 1,060 tons of CO2- the equivalent of 2,410,162 miles driven by cars.

“This project reflects our commitment to making thoughtful, long-term investments that benefit both Shallowford and the broader community,” said Rev. Anna George Traynham, Senior Pastor. “Going solar allows us to reduce operating costs while aligning our energy use with our values.”

Sunpath Solar also performed a utility rate audit for Shallowford Presbyterian that resulted in an additional $6,937/year savings on utility cost.

“We believe energy should power the church’s mission — not be a drain on its resources. By lowering energy costs, more resources flow toward critical ministry and mission work,” said Seth Gunning, CEO of Sunpath Solar. “Sunpath is honored to serve as a long-term energy partner for Shallowford Presbyterian.”

Beyond the immediate financial savings, the solar installation supports long-term energy stability, protects against rising utility costs, and contributes to local climate resilience. By generating clean power on-site, Shallowford Presbyterian Church is taking a practical step toward reducing its environmental footprint while keeping more resources focused on its core mission. The project became operational in January, 2026.
