Dale Smith and his wife Tricia started searching for a church to belong to after they were married in 1987. Four years later, and after moving from Midtown to Tucker, Dale officially joined Shallowford. He knew he wanted a church family close to home.
“It was the preaching of Tom Are that initially stood out to me,” Dale said. “When he would preach a sermon, he could tell any kind of a story and turn it into a Biblical lesson about the human experience.”
Dale quickly immersed himself in the many opportunities at Shallowford to get involved and help others. One of the first, as Dale calls it, was the “Hammer Brigade,” which consisted of a few Shallowford members who would do small repairs to members’ and neighbor’s homes with the sole mission of helping and serving those in need.
Dale became involved in early worship as an usher and in adult Sunday school for the Pairs & Spares class. This is where he found his church family. He felt called to connect with this small group within the church.
“I’ve attended Shallowford all these years because I’ve always found individuals who could teach me to grow and become a better follower of Christ,” Dale shared. “For example, John Britt [former leader of P&S] taught me a lot about small group leadership and a welcoming environment for all.”
Now as the leader of Pairs & Spares for several years, Dale continues to share that welcoming environment to all.
When you give to Shallowford, your generosity opens the door for many different types of opportunities to expand upon your own faith as a Christian. Your mission now is to find the opportunities that speak most directly to your heart and soul, as Dale has done.
